What Everyone Ought to Know About Modern Windows

So you're reading over a list of window features and you read,"Intercept Spacers." You think--Now what the heck does mean? Is that important?

Occasionally I make the mistake of answering client's question with jargon I've been using for over 35 years--bad habits are hard to break! In order to correct that, I figured I'd offer a quick guide to decoding a modern window. Think of it as: A Benefits Guide Cheat Sheet.

Let's start.

Beveled/Flush frames: Clients are evenly divided as to which they prefer. Clients who like a traditional wide wood look prefer the Beveled frame, while clients who prefer a sleeker, modern look, tend to prefer the Flat frame. See our images (right side of page) just below each featured window and you decide which you prefer.

Weepholes: Pretty much only a functional items. Weepholes allow for moisture to drain from out the outer trough of the window sill. Some weepholes come with a passing door. See our images (on the right) just below each featured window and you decide which you prefer.

Hardware: Typically two choices: Latch system and Auto action system. Another personal choice for clients. Latch system clients prefer to know that they have to physically lock the window themselves. Auto action clients prefer to know that when they shut the window, the window automatically locks. See our images (on the right) ...you know the drill.

Equal Sightlines: This is an aesthetic thing. You'll find that when you look at a window, the window frames from the upper to lower sashes or the right to left sashes may not align. When they align we call it Equal Sightlines, when they don't...you guessed it, Unequal Sightlines. You can decide for yourself whether this is important to you.

Take a look at what Greenworld offers and click on the Cheat Sheet image (on the right) to lean more about how the features translate into benefits.
